Senior Electrical Engineer 

(This position is located in Fulton, MD)

As part of a small business, the Senior Electrical Engineer will assist in the development of novel electronic designs for a variety of military and commercial products in an agile, fast-paced small business environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

DAS requires a dynamic individual able to focus on multiple facets of the design, packaging, and test and evaluation of sensors and associated data communication architectures. Individuals should be able to adapt to a variety of roles from conceptual design, engineering for manufacturing, and prototyping through production. Representative activities and roles are identified below.

REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS:

  • High Fidelity Lab Instrumentation – full systems integration of ruggedized next-generation mass spectrometer system, real-time code for prototype lab instrumentation, aerosol chamber controls and user interfaces.

  • Unmanned Systems Integration - integration of miniature sensors, mesh-radio systems, and sensor data protocol handlers on unmanned platforms.

  • Power system logic controls for ruggedized military field instrumentation and environmental sample collection systems.

TASKS:

  • Work with other engineers in the development of electrical designs for commercial and military hardware using a variety of manufacturing approaches (Schematic entry, simulation, PCB floor planning and quick turn PCB fabrication).

  • Digital and analog hardware design

  • Firmware and application software design in concert with software engineers.

  • Work with mechanical and systems engineers to produce reliable, manufacturable designs.

  • Perform parts analysis to ensure reliable performance in operational environments including compliance with radiation, thermal, and operational constraints.

  • Develop and maintain design documentation including manufacturing drawings, in addition to assembly, test and evaluation protocols.

  • uController/IoT programming of production lab instrumentation to support real-time continuous experiments.

  • Provide direct support to, and supervision of, production staff or sub-contractors.

  • Annotate the test case file documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results.

  • Work independently and on a team to inform management of critical timelines, safety issues and other programmatic relevant information.

  • Balance design with prototyping to ensure high quality, affordable solutions with stringent reliability requirements.

  • Proposal writing and new business development due diligence.

  • Manage time effectively to complete assignments within time and budget constraints.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

  • Proficient in C, C++, Assembly or other embedded systems-related languages

  • Demonstrated proficiency working with EDA / ECAD tools

  • 10+ years relevant experience in commercial or government engineering position.

  • Demonstrated expertise in digital and analog design, analog to digital conversion, low power/battery power design and PCB fabrication.

  • Proficient in written and presentation communication methods.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance at the secret level.

DESIRED:

  • MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in government testing and operational activities

  • Proficient with Cadence tools, including CIS and Allegro

  • Experience in PSPICE or other circuit simulation tools

  • Experience with AVR microcontroller architecture and Atmel Studio IDE

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

This position requires that the candidate be willing and able to complete a successful background screening for a US DoD security clearance. Candidates with an active security clearance will receive preference.

Travel:

Position may involve occasional or extended travel to local and remote test and manufacturing locations. Travel is generally in the continental US, and is not expected to exceed 10% of the year.
